That's a very difficult question to answer, given how little information we have on that. For starters, most victims of sexual abuse don't tell anyone about it -- and if we don't know who the victims are, we don't know what everyone's orientation is, so we can't point to a causal relationship or even a correlation between sexual abuse and sexual orientation.
I think all we really have to go on is anecdotal evidence. I know a woman who was raped and later came out of the closet -- whether she was already a lesbian prior to the incident I'll probably never know. But I do know that subsequently, she had a great fear of men who are not related to her -- and still does, to this day. So maybe she was so traumatized that she became distrusting of practically all men and women were the only ones with whom she felt comfortable in any type of relationship, romantic ones included. Again, I don't know.
I myself went through a very unfortunate experience and am now questioning my own sexuality, although I don't believe that this is a result of what happened.
Unfortunately, anecdotal evidence is inadequate. I think we'll have to see more research on this issue.

i have asked this question in the past and received similar responses to what you have here. some people are appaled at the idea. others consider that it could be a factor with regards to why some people, women especially, may choose to go with a same sex partner rather than a man in a long term relationship.
i don't think there is a simple answer. perhaps the gay 'gene' was present and the molestation set it off? perhaps the fear of men is too strong? perhaps the early trauma, if it started when the person was young enough, altered the persons genetic make up. it does it for other things, why not for sexual preference? and why not for all people?
i don't this has a yes or no answer. i think it can influence but it isn't an automatic response to abuse. but i do know too many women who have been abused at a very yong age that have ended up in homosexual relationships to not wonder if there is a connection.
my answer will make people angry. i am not saying that the majority of people are not born gay. i know too many gays with no history of abuse. who knew they were gay a a very early age. and if they didn't the people around them did.
but there are just no black and white answers to anything in life.

Gay and never molested.
I have a friend who was routinely molested but he's straight.
So go figure.
What's really ironic is that most who actually molest children, regardless of the child's gender, are heterosexuals. Mainly male, most of them married.
By your example that would mean over 12% of all women are lesbians and nearly 17% of all males are gay. This averages out to around 14.5% of all adults. A bit high by anyone's standards.
And this doesn't even include those who are lesbian/gay but who weren't ever molested.

dot,
i wonder. I was molested and I'm bi. But it's like I don't really count. I am so Scorpio, for lack of a better word. I prefer women, but I have been with men. Nothing long term either way.
I guess the whole molesting thing turned me off in a way. I want sex, but I don't want to live for sex.
Does that make any sense?

They say something like 1 out of 6 girls and 1 out of 8 boys were molested as kids. Do you believe there are that many gays out there? Get real. You're basic premise is a stereotype.

There are many people who have been molested and are not gay. I wonder what the explanation for them is?

Nope.
Being molested doesn't have anything to do with being gay.
