I think it's a great addition to the game, gives the fans a little additional excitement at the end of a game. It's a reward for sitting through a 0-0 defensive battle all night long, offense is much more interesting.

Yes and no. It's good for fans. I really don't like Eisner - who never actually skated once in his life probably - but the "entertainment value" of a game is higher with the shootout.
There was only one team (Dallas) that I know that really got a lot more points because of shootouts. And in the playoffs with no shootouts they showed that they weren't as good.
I am thinking about the Tampa-Atlanta-Toronto situation at the end of last season: it would be very bad if the best team among the teams competing to be #8 in the playoffs didn't acceed to the playoffs because another team was really good in shootouts.
But when you do see the shootouts on TV, you're really excited to see who scores. And in the overtime games years before I wanted to turn the TV off at the end of 60:00. It's a tough situation, to decide if shootouts are better. And too often it's shootout-specialists that make for points with some teams rather than the real team players. But, fact is, the shootouts get everyone's attention and that's why they'll probably stay.

I like the concept of deciding the game and giving the fans more excitement during the regular season. Of course this would never fly in the playoffs, it would be as smart as deciding the World Cup on penalty kicks oops poor analogy.
To make it more of a team concept, instead of a one on one shootout, I'd like to see the shootout involve a game simulation of two on one breaks. Instead of placing the pressure squarely on the goaltender and shooter in a situation that rarely happens in games anymore 2 skaters could start on their own blueline with the defender at center ice, the shootout would begin when the offensive players made a required first pass. This would get other players involved as well as forcing the coaches to make more decisions on who plays well together offensively as well as who they would have as a lone defender.

Shootouts are exciting but I'd rather see continuous OT. They should have friendly shootouts between periods.

I think it is great that there is some way to determine a winner, and during the regular season this seems to be popular with the fans. It certainly brings some excittement to the game. I know they cannot do it in the regular season, but I still like sudden death like they have in the playoffs.

No, it's like penalty kicks at the end of a soccer game. Sure it's exciting for the fans, but all the pressure is on the goaltender and the shooter. I don't think it's fair at all...

The shootouts after the ties are completely awesome, like all of the other rule changes. Out of all of them, this one is one of the very best.

I think that it gives the fans an adrenalin rush pushing them to show extreme team spirit encouraging the players to win the game and play even harder.

I think they are great! Lots of fun and exciting to watch. But I don't think it should be done in the playoffs, hope they never try that.
