I loved alot of the music coming out of the 80's and 90's.

Especially metal and rap, but I also liked pop music of the 80's, R&B, Etc.

Todays R&B is full of rappers adding a word here and there.

Todays metal is just constant inaudible screaming, unlike metallica, guns & roses, korn, Etc.

Todays rap is just car and jewelry commercials.

There are a few exceptions to this crap.

What the hell happened to music this century?

Have I become too old to appreciate this music? I'm 32.

I don't remember the 70's but loved the music of the 60's and 70's. 50's not as much.

No I think music has suffered the same decline it saw towards the end of the 50's when record labels had to much power and were going for short term results, and toward the end of the 80's and there was another big decline. You'll notice when a surge of independant music comes through it's when the major labels are broke and there becomes room in the industry for the "Sub Pop"s of the world. It's all manufactured Pop again including the myspace generations "fall out boy" crap. I just started listen to world music- alot of Reggae, some latin and alot of Jazz. Not only is it all good, you can be pretentious about it too, and snear at those fifteen year old kids who wear AFI t-shirts. this is all just my opinion, but I really do think the record industry is on a strong downslope, but bands like the "black Keys" are a great example of these indie guys making it through because the big guys are failing.

Yes, I like music from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s, even some from the 50s and 60s. Today's music is just horrible. Too much grunge and hip-hop, and I can't stand either one of them. Either the singers scream, moan like dying cows, or in the case of rap, every other word is a filthy one. What happened to the great singer-songwriters we used to have? Now everything is garbage, and the generation growing up with it has missed out on a lot.

Each generation has it's crap music. Today, there is much more of it than usual. However, there are stations breaking barriers like Indie Stations and NPR.

But the so called Metal ain't Metal my friend because its Nu Metal and it blows chunks. It's piss and can't hold water to pre-sell out Metallica material, Iron Maiden. Sadly Metal overall get's ignored but there are a vast array of wonderful Metal Material out there. Evanescence is not Metal. Breaks my heart when people say that. Nightwish is Metal and way better. Too bad, the lead singer is gone *SNIFF*

R&B and Rap are tragic figures. There's nothing it seems they can rap about except going down on chicks and collecting material wealth. However, there is the underground rap scene and it's got talent (i.e. Binary Star, Mr. Doom, Necro, Atmosphere...)

I saw today Monica's new video as I was flipping past BET. Even she's sold out to the club ghetto, see my fancy bling bling style. Her voice is not what it once was and she looks haggard.

Music? There is lots of good music, it's just covered up, but it can be accessed.

Hun, I am almost 30. There are good tunes that hit the radio. It took long enough but KT Tunstall made it here. I love her. I love Keane. Franz Ferndinand rocks. There's good music to be had.

Check out Pitchfork Media for good news on music esp. Indies. They even have legal, free downloads. :D

You're not alone that's why VH1 and groups from the 70's like the Who are doing tours again, Screaming, vampires, goth, distorted sounded voices, Insane Clown Posse and other are just so negative and people who get mature enough (late 20's , early 30's) don't want to drive home after a day at work with such aggression pounding their ears. It's like a bullet to the emotions, how do you have a happy life and attitude listening to that. I don't like rap, to me it's an African-American cultural thing and I honestly can't relate although I do like the Kanye West song "Jesus Walks", so getting back to your question, no you are definitely not alone.

Yes, you are right. There are probably less than 10 songs in the last decade or two that I like, they have to be really good though. I love the 80's music. I have 7 cds full of 80's music. I would've made more but it is getting harder to get free music on the internet! LOL. I don't know why I like it. I know I hear songs that I heard when I was growing up and I think "I love this song!". But I think its more than that. I agree that it is getting harder and harder to find good music. I am 28, and I appreciate good music more than ever, but I just think that the music of today is bad - like you said!

So true.
What's up with that, I wonder?
My guess is, that these artists are mostly manufactured anyway thanks to a dime a dozen talent shows i.e. American Idol, Rockstar, etc.
It seems like everyone else on the planet knows how to carry a tune! Another obviously, are the music "puppet masters" that only place the importance of record sales more than artistic integrity.
Also one does not need to have a voice just so long as there's a good video, they look hot and !Voila! They're popular!

Yeah...the majority of today "main streem" music does suck! But there are some really good bands out there. I guess you just have to know where to look. And no...you're NEVER too old to appreciate music!! But as times change...so does the music. It's very hard to be open mineded to the newer stuff out there. I listen to mainly older metal...Metallica, Black Sabbath, Corrosion Of Conformity, Slayer, Iron Mainden, Megadeth, Pantera...stuff like that. But there are newer bands out there that I dig. Slipknot, Korn, Tool, Mudvayne, Static-x, Kittie, Mushroomhead (to name a few.) But it really all depends on your taste. Everyone is different. Try checking out local bands too. There's a bunch around here that aren't signed...but are still great. Try checking out Stemm, Opiate For The Masses, Inherence, and Liquid Violence (for starters.) Just remember to be open minded. If you like them...feel free to get ahold of me for more suggestions. If you don't like them...well at least I tried. Plus, Myspace is a great place to find bands.

i accept as true with u thoroughly! todays track has no soul! eccpecially that rap sh*t! what the f*** is soulja boy! some new track is noticeably sturdy yet its no longer as sturdy as track from th 60s and 70s. ive continually seen myself to have been born contained in the incorrect technology. im like certainly one of these hippie. and im 13. im a extensive fan of the beatles, jimi hendrix, queen, poison, and all track from the 50s-90s. i want i'd desire to pass back to the 60s or 80s or 40s or perhaps even 20s. those cases appeared a lot exciting. and that i dont see what the great deal is with hannah montana and the jonas bros. theyre so homosexual! and theyre extra directed in the direction of sons and daughters yet all human beings makes a huge deal approximately them.
