Hang it on the back of the bathroom door and close the door. Turn on the shower and get it really steamy in the bathroom. Gently smooth out the wrinkles with your hand by rubbing down the gown. For tougher wrinkles, you might need to take a very clean dry cloth and rub the wrinkles smooth.
I know it sounds odd, but it worked for me. I had to pack my wedding gown in my carry-on bag on the plane. When I took it out, it was wrinkled and in a hotel, I didn't have many options. A maid told me to do this and it worked great. Didn't really take that long either.
Hope it helps.

You say polyester, but what kind? Is it satin, taffeta or like a stretchy fabric? Satin and taffeta can be ironed...unless there are sequins on it, they will melt or if glued on they will fall off. I used to work in a Bridal salon... wish I had more details

Steam will not hurt it if it is 100 percent poly. Steam it.

depends on how long you've got, try just hanging it on a hanger, or stream or dry cleaners
