YES ABSOLUTLY!!! marijuana is the most commonly uses illegal substance in the United States. it is used by many people, most of which aren't your stereotypical "druggie", with no life agead of them. Many of them hapen to be very successful, good people. Think about it almost if not every person who reads this paper will know (even if they don't realize it) at least one if not several regular users of marijuana. Its often made out to be much more harmful htan it really is, unfortunatly not every one realizes this.
What many people don't realize is marijuana is much less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. Yet it's the one of the three that gets a bad rap and is illegal. Marijuana isn't even physicaly addicting. You certanly don't see meetings for marijuana like you do with alcohol and AA. Unfortunatly due to American culture the less harmful of the three is illegal.
The most common reason why marijuana can be harmful is that people can often come across laced marijuana without realizing it. Marijuana can easily be mixed with other more harmful drugs with out the buyer realizing it, until they have already used it. This is a dangerous thing that causes many people to do more harmful, hard core drugs without realizing it. If it were to be legalized the government could provide guide lines, like it does with alchol to insure that people knew what they were putting into their bodies.
Marijuana actually has many helpful benefits toward diseases / sicknesses. Marijuana can reduce nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite caused by AIDS. It can Reduce interlobular pressure, which alleviates the pain and slowing and sometimes even stopping the progress of glaucoma. Common side effects of chemotherapy are nausea, loss of appetite, and vomiting, all of which marijuana would help. It can limit muscle pain and relieve tremor nad unsteadiness of gait for multiple sclerosis patients. Marijuana can help prevent epileptic seizures in some patients. It can also alleviate chronic, often debilitating pain caused by myriad disorders and injuries. Each one of these applications have been deemed legitimate by at least one United States court, legislature, and/or government agency.
Due to these reasons and many others many people are going to jail/prison on a daily basis due to simply smoking a little pot These aren't dangerous criminals that would kill or rape someone. Many of them are teachers, lawyers and respected members of their communities. But yet we still pay thousands of dollars of tax payers money to lock up non dangerous "criminals" yearly even though most aren't going to stop after they get out of jail. Don't you think the money spent here is a waste? Couldn't it be going to more useful things such as hospitals, disease research, or better schools? These are the things that would benifit the people of this country. Certanily you would rather benefit the people more than throwing a non violent pot head in jail who was only trying to smoke a joint and relax after a long days work in jail. There is up to forty million regular (note thats just the regular not occasional users) drug users in the United states. If we were to throw all of them in jail it would cost $500,000 per million people, plus the cost and space of building many more prisons. Couldm't that money be spent on building hospitals? There's already about 1.5 million people tax payers are paying to keep in jail over drugs. From 1990 to 2003, nearly 5.9 million people had been arrested for smoking marijuana. Thats a greater number than the entire population of Alaska, Delaware, The District of Columbia, Montania, North and South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming combined. This country simply can't afford to put 40 million more in jail.
Marijuana should be legalized. It has many uses such as helping sick patients. People are going to smoke it no matter what the government sais, and with out govenment guidelines this can be dangerous. Not to mention the fact that we have no way we can afford to throw all those people in jail. Its much less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, which are legal, so doesn't it make sense that it would be also?

wellllll my answer includes a no, but mostly yes. First, its a silly reason to put people in jail. How can you compare a murderer, thief, rapist, molester, etc. to someone smoking a joint. Put ALL them people in jail, then maybe I will listen to why a doper should be in jail. Til then, gimme a break. Then, if you legalize pot, there would be enough money in taxes to fight Dub's war. That is where I draw the line. I don't want pot legalized. I want it decriminalized. God put pot here on earth, just like a dandelion. Its a natural occurring plant. Just like hops or wheat, or potatoes, or sugar cane. . Ahhhhhh, I mean the stuff you can be fermented into alcohol?? That stuff?? Yeah, that stuff !! I would rather be on the road with people stoned than drunk. People who think they are going 70 when in reality they may be going all of 40, are a lot safer than a drunk who is going 70 and has no idea its that fast, or worse, has no idea how he got behind the wheel in the first place. Give me a choice and I opt for decriminalization which means......its free and it doesnt get taxed. Thats my choice. Not legalized. Notice the similarity, yet the distinct difference? I thought ya might.
Grumpy is almost as old as my parents. I remember one morning waking up in the sixties to a newpaper clipping that said pot caused impotence. And i watched the movie Marijuana Madness. Man did I laugh when the first grand kid was born. Then 4 kids later I decided we better stop. Seems every time we got stoned we would forget what it was caused them little peeps. First thing ya know, we was rolling another dube and makin another kid. So much for impotence. What we should have done was be honest out the gate. It does have a lot of tar, but NO nicotine.....,it is not as addictive, or more so, than heroin. What a crock.....worse than tobacco......geeze.....
As for it causing mental collapse or leading to hard drugs, people who go to hard drugs wern't looking for a buzz like you get on pot. They wanted to escape reality llike you do when you get seriously drunk. Thats narcotics territory. With that in mind believe me when I say, oxygen leads directly to heroin abuse.

I think it should be legalized. It would cause crime to drop quite a bit. It could produce money through taxes for funding for education, health care, and housing. It could create jobs through marijuana production, factories and maybe have employment for those previously selling illegally. It's no more harmful then cigarettes and liqour and they are both legal. Actually marijuana has many medical uses so I would put it along the same lines of danger as caffiene coffee intake and exercise. If done in moderation it can be considered healthy for some illnesses and anything done in excess is dangerous. As far as it killing braincells. Well I know more marijuana smokers who work everyday then alcoholics and less with health problems.

Yes it should be legal.
1 because it is less dangerous then alcohol
2 because it is extremely popular in America
3 because it is a renewable, very useful plant, Pot seed oil could even be a potential alternative fuel source. Hemp products are usually very durable.
4 medicinal value, relieves pain, gives aids and cancer patients an appetite so that they can gain weight, which helps them to fight off the disease.
5 if they taxed it and sold it in stores, they could make a killing
6 it would get rid of the little pot dealers, so that they could focus in on crack, heroin, crystal meth, etc.
7 future political candidates won't have to lie about smoking it

Yes, it should be legal. Then a whole generation would grow up making rigid rules about when, where, and how much you can use pot. The police would have a whole book full of brand new laws to enforce. Alchohol consumption would be cut in half and Americans would finally get some good native beers. Best of all, all of the joy of sneaking around behind everyone's back with a joint in your pocket or going to a football game "secretly" stoned would be gone.
I for one welcome the $35 extra wide triple filtered low tar toke.

Don't ask if you are not prepared to hear criticism.
Over 60% of new psychiatric illness is caused by marijuana and other illicit drug use. If you want to seriously and permanently kill your brain then go ahead, but don't encourage others. Sometimes legislators actually make wise decisions, and banning drugs is one of them.
And don't say it's no different to alcohol, because there is truck loads of scientific evidence to prove it is.

Yes, marijuana should be legal. Why? because only stupid people use it, and it makes their penises shrivel up so they can't reproduce. Also, it has more nasty chemicals in it than tobacco, and we all know how good that is for killing stupid people off early.
Maijuana could be a very important part of a new national eugenics program!

Care or not, I've seen too many people allow even so small a drug as pot to ruin their lives. Besides, isn't a fast food combo enough foriegn chemicals for your body to deal with?

Hmmm.....tough question. Yes, I do so the government can tax it like they do everything else. Can you image the money our government could make? LOL... The Social Security problem would go away. Why not make it legal? People will still use it like they do now. People will still die from lung cancer and hospitals will make money from that. I like it's all about the dollar.
