Getting through high school. I'm part Native American, and was one of only a few minorities in a school of 1200. I put up with a lot of harassment, low expectations, and prejudice from both students and teachers, and almost caved in by dropping out once I turned 16. But my dad told me to stick it out, take my SATs and ACTs, and by keeping my eyes on the proverbial prize, graduated in the top 20% of my class, and with a few sizable scholarships to a much more accepting and top-notch college waaayy out of state! I owe a lot of what I am today to holding on when things were really dour.
