i seem to have irritable bowels. im having diarreah, gas, cramping. occasional abdominal pain . not sure what foods to eat. been eating alot of grilled chicken, or lunch meat, or pbj sandwiches as well as soup. does anyone know if beef stew in a can will make the bwels mad or upset them? they seem to get upset, come out, feel better, i eat, im fine, then later gas and cramping occur...then sometimes i get the diarreah problems. its a variety of different occurences, so im hoping its just IBS. so with IBS what foods can i eat on a daily basis? is IBS going to be irritated no matter what i eat? what would be some good lunch ideas to take to work with me? i appreciate all the ideas and suggestions i can get. thank you.

My daughter has IBS and was put on meds, years ago. I don't even remember the names of the prescription, but she took gasX over the counter. It got worse when she was in school and it was real quiet and she was nervous to make a "gassy" sound. When it was quiet, or no bathroom was around, it would get worse. The reason I don't remember the name of the med is because I had to homeschool her it was so bad. She would cry and not want to go to school. But since she's been homeschooled and can relax in her own home, the IBS has gotten so much better, she doesn't even take the meds anymore! She did have to watch everything she ate, no chocolate, caffeine, red meat, milk etc.I'm not sure about the beef stew, but probably the grease and stuff in that is not too good for IBS.. I can't even remember exactly what she did eat, just milder foods really. Nothing too spicy. If you are in a lot of quiet situations, it may get aggravated due to the fear of making gas noise. The medicine did help her, but easing the stress, helped the most. Now she can eat normally again and can continue on with her life. For example, she wouldn't go anywhere or do anything for fear of an accident. She wouldn't go to camp or anything. But it is manageable and can be treated. Good Luck!!!

I had IBS with bad cramps and diahrrea, etc about ten years ago. Ever since I've been on Metamucil. It really helps with the upset tummy. I find that I can't have too many fruits. Irritable bowel is a condition that is diagnosed by my doctor after ruling out other things. Don't self diagnose yourself. If all of a sudden you are having these symptoms out of nowhere, it can be a stomach bug or food poisoning. If it continues for more than a week, go to a doctor. She or he will decide.

From what you have described it's IBS. I'd do a search on WebMD for Irritable bowel syndrome and read more about it.

I don't have an IBS diagnosis, but I have digestion problems. Here are a few things that I do that I am quite sure will help you at least some:

1. Try reducing the amount of wheat in your diet. You can do this by replacing some wheat products like bread, flour, pancakes, cereal, waffles, pasta with *gluten-free* foods. Some foods are labeled "gluten free" and you know food has gluten in it if it contains wheat, flour, or whole wheat. Rice is better, and brown rice is great. You can buy rice pasta, rice flour, and gluten free products are most easily found in health food stores. Amazon.com is a great place to buy these products in bulk.

2. Beef stew can be bad because of it's ingredients, including flour (contains gluten) as a thickener and preservatives. Make your own and it is less likely to cause digestion problems.

3. Take cultures (probiotics) like acidipholis (the kind from the health food store that is only kept in the refrigerator.) You can also get some that don't require refrigeration.

4. Take psyillium husks (from health food store or vitamin store) This is straight fiber and helps with the digestive track. It's nasty by itself or dissolved in water, but manageable if taken in veggie juice.

4.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome needs to be dianosed and treated. Once diagnosed, a proper diet can help. Different foods affect different people. My husband cannot eat any prepared luncheon meats, I have trouble with potatoes. Just depends on you. Depending on your age, you might need a sigscope test or a colonoscopy for them to properly diagnose what is wrong--which by the way are not big deal really, very easy.

It would be anything from IBS, Diverticulitis, colon polyps, colon cancer. It isn't safe to let it go.

Please go to a gastroenterologist! As this COULD be IBS....there are other disorders that are very close to IBS, but are far worse. There are actually three differant "levels of severity" in the same "famly of disorders"
1. IBS
2 COLITIS
3. CHROHN'S DISEASE

I have been diagnosed with crohn's disease.....and the symptoms for it can be alot like IBS. But it is imperitive you get to a doc to find out what you really have, because if you take the advice about fiber.....and have something like I do....your gonna be hurting really really bad.....

I was dxd. with IBS years ago but don't have it anymore. I use psylium and lots of water. You can get psylium in health food stores or use Metamucil. It has psylium in it, but would be cheaper just to us psylium or even flax seed. Both make your stomach work better. But I sure would advise you to see a doctor.
Good luck and good health to you
