I've been in dance three years now, i started when i was 14, but i think my teacher is rushing my training, because i've never heard of any of the other students complaining of the problem that i have. The first two years i was enrolled in almost all the classes my school offered because i was on the team. Now i am only in ballet and am being trained in pointe shoes, i have been for the last year and a half. I have a lot of pain in the joints in my hips after we do work at the barre especially focusing on turnout. The next day it hurts to walk, sit down, or do anything, even though i stretch before hand. Sometimes the pain may last for two weeks, leave and then return.

Does anyone know of any excercises that may help the pain in my joints or have any other advice that doesn't involve me quitting dance?

How long have you danced for before you went on pointe? It is very very important to have at least 3 or 4 years of ballet training before you go on pointe. Pains are normal when doing any dance, but it should not be hurting as much as you describe. I would seek medical attention just to check, because at your age there are always growing pains. But if you have not had those years of training and you think the teacher is rushing your learning (it sounds like it to me) then please have your mother remove you from the class and find another instructor. It would be smart to find out background information too.

The pain you are describing does not sound normal. Are your legs of same length? Some people have on leg longer than the other and even slight differences may cause symptoms similar to what you are describing. If you have the resources to afford a doctors visit do so (orthopedic preferably or someone who specializes in sports medicine)... I would also recommend a physical therapy evaluation. If you are getting hurt, stop dancing and find another way to fill that need... why do you dance? Is there something else that could answer that want?

It is better to take care of your health while you still have it, then regret it later in life. You will be old, much longer than you will be young and what you do now will have implications for life.

I'm glad to hear that people are useing dance in a effective way (like you). You say your teahcer is rushing your training but are you so sure? Is it just a case of you getting tired of it? Do you really enjoy danceing or is something someone else wants you to do> These are all questions you should ask yourself.
I myself: Get on all fours. Keep your legs close together and then slowly strech one leg out straight behind you. Keep it straight. Do this 10-20 times balancing on your two arms (palms should be flat on the floor) and the other leg. Try this and maybe that's not your problem. Do you take breaks from danceing? Maybe your just being over worked? One more suggestion: See if you can't get another dance teacher!

Well, it's hard to say for sure, because I don't know if the pain is a tightness or a "my hip is not attached right" kind of pain. If it hurts like it was grinding the bone, drinking plenty of fluids will help your joints move more freely. If your hips feel like they are leaving the socket, you may need to tighten that ligament. To do this, tone the lower back muscles. Try laying on your stomach, and doing a "stomach crunch" type motion, lifting your upper body off the floor by tightening your lower back. look at things outside or the ballet that could be causing the problem. do you use splenda? it is known for causing joint pains especially in the hips. all the other artificial sweetners have a huge list of health problems that they cause. you could try glucosamine chondroitin which helps joints. it can be found almost anywhere but the cheapest ive found is at walmart. you are putting your joints through stress that normal people dont do so you need to find a realistic way to take care of them. the glucosamine chondroitin has a lot of joint benifits. do research or talk to a doctor. pay attention to what you eat every day and see if there is anything that corresponds to your hips hurting. maybe keep a food and activities diary for a while. good luck! i hope you can keep doing what you love for years to come. we should all be able to do that.

Consult a sports medicine doctor. You may be able to get a good recommendation from a ballet company.

Probably because you kids are 15 and have no idea about sex. I mean flexibility okay and all...but you can still be able to bend all over the place and be bad at sex. and no i don't find it any more attractive than anything else

you should not be on pointe yet, if you started at 14, you should have waited a couple of years. true you would not have to wait as long as the younger dancers because your feet bones are probably alomost full size, or full size, but your teacher deffinetly rushed you.
