WCDMA stands for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access which we all popularly know as 3G, it operates on the 2100MHz band and allows near broadband speeds for connections on mobile phones.

Many countries have rolled out 3G services like UK, Singapore, Hong Kong & Australia. In the US the service is called EVDO.

The Nokia N91 WCDMA will support the GSM bands and the 3G band...thats GSM 800/900/1800 MHz and 2100 MHz for 3G.

GSM Global System for Mobile communications and has 4 bands to it...850/900/1800/1900 MHz the first and last frequencies are used in US and other countries while a majority support 900/1800 MHz bands.

The Nokia N91 GSM will support GSM bands 800/900/1800 MHz bands ONLY...not the 2100 MHz 3G band.

The difference is to make the model more accessible to users in countries without 3G so it can be sold a little cheaper without the 3G band.
