Okay FIRST buy Newborn sized diapers (it's the size before size 1)
Next, you are gonna be just fine. I'm not gonna lie, it hurts like hell and a small little IV won't mean anything compared to the pain so don't worry about a IV. I hope you have already informed your doctor whether or not you want drugs to help take the pain away. Try not to worry, and just be excited that pretty soon you get to see his sweet little face. Your son can sense that you are worried, so be calm. Talk about all your concerns with your doctor during you next prenatal check up and ask every question you have. I used to go to my check ups with a list of questions written down. Good luck!

Dont feel stupid...if you've never had a baby, you just wouldn't know some things.. : ) ok...first of all, newborns wear size "newborn" diapers. The size is located on the bottom left hand corner of most diaper packages...There is always a nurse at the hospital who is in charge of giving you ALL the basic info you need before you go home with your baby. She'll answer ANY questions you have.
I was very afraid of giving birth also. I was scared of the pain and scared i would die during childbirth. Your fear are much worse than the reality though. They ussually DO stick you with an IV but dont worry..it feels like a pinch and you barely notice it if you dont watch them stick you. Anyway, if you have an epidural you'll be pretty much painfree..i went natural, meanning, i didnt take any pain meds for my labor and it was not bad at all. The VERY worst part was just when th eocntractions were really close together and i was worn out. But when you actually start pushing and all the excitement starts, you barely notice any pain or discomfort. I had an episiotomy and I didnt feel a thing..your body has natrual pain releivers and they work for you if you dont have regular meds. most important...read books to make sure you know what to expect, and have a support person close by at all times...
Im not promising that you wont feel a thing but it's really not as dramatic as alot of people make it out to be. Best wishes with the rest of your pregnancy..and let me know if you have any questions...i know what its like to feel clueless and afraid..you're not alone girl : )

You're giving birth in a hospital because they will know what to do if something goes wrong. You don't have to worry about it.
They will, in all likelihood, stick you with an IV. They want to keep you hydrated, and having the IV line in already means that they can add antibiotics if you test positive for group B strep, etc. Trust me: you won't care about the IV while you're in real labor. You might want it out right away afterwards, and it might bother you in early labor, but compared to the pain of giving birth, an IV is nothing. It's not even on the map.
And you CAN walk around or even get in the tub with an IV in. You just have to ask for a mobile IV stand. Big deal.
Most newborns wear newborn size diapers. Unless you have a huge baby--like 9 pounds or more--size 1s will be too big.

First of all,I would like to say "Congradulations!". You are about to experience something both scary and wonderful,at the same time. I know it sounds weird to put those two words together, but this is what's going to happen. I know your nervous, but you will need your strength when it's time to give birth. You did the right thing,by keeping up with your doctor's appointments. You must have had an "Ultra Sound",in order to know you were having a boy. (Now) The Ultra Sound also detemined which position your baby is lying, which means the doctor would have imformed you,if there was something wrong. I'm not going to tell you, that it won't hurt, because that would be lying too!. The only time giving birth does'nt hurt,is when your going to have a "Ceaserean",because you'll be under "General Anethestic" (asleep). " The Labor" is what takes so long. I called it "Antisipation". It's the pain you'll fell in your abdomen, after the operation is over. Just relax, take deep breaths during labor, and "Push" like mad, when the doc tells you too. I'm going to pray that you and your son pull through this, and that he's healthy, and you'll be your normal self again in no time. (PS) We females get very hungry, after childbirth, because our appetite increases. Exercise, eat moderately, and stay away from "Burger King and Micky-D's". Don't worry!. Your going to be just fine-You'll see! (Now-About Disposible Diapers). I recommend "HUGGIES", size 1 or size A,depending on where you live, and shop. (Good Luck!-Love: Squeakers)

Sweetheart, you're getting all worked up over the most natural and wonderful thing you can possibly do - giving birth. Don't sweat it, the folks at the hospital have dealt with countless birth events, and have a plenty of experience dealing with situations where "something goes wrong". Those somethings can sound and look dramatic, but the staff will know exacly what to do if, by some very small chance, your delivery goes awry. They will not establish an IV line unless absolutely necessary - I've both poked those needles into people and had 'em poked into me, and believe me, you can easily tolerate that tiny amount of pain, especially when you realize you're doing it for your baby.
As for what size diapers - it'll say "newborn" right on the box and that's what you get for the little one - that's how they determine the size - by the child's age. There're even Pampers and Luvs that are sized for premature babies! I suggest when you get home using the disposables during the day and use regular, oldfashioned cloth diapers at night - that'll cut down on the baby's chances of developing severe diaper rash. Be sure to check and change both frequently. And be prepared for quite a few interrupted nights' sleep...even if Daddy takes turns with ya in getting up to change the little one...

I am right there with ya on the giving birth thing. Im not afraid of the needles just the whole birth process. As far as diapers, from what I seen they are in stages and I have been getting the stage one's. They also have these diapers out that have a dip where the belly button is for the first lil bit. Anyway, I hope that everything goes okay. I am almost 34 weeks. Due on Oct. 30th. When are you due?

I was also scared when I gave birth to my daughter almost 2 years ago. When you are through with it, you will think that it was all worth it just to be holding that little baby in your arms. They will have nurses there to help you. I also found that it helped that I had two people there with me to hold my hand through contractions. I understand that you are scared and don't really know completely what to expect, but if there is someone there with you, you will probably feel more comfortable. Oh and about the diapers, depending on what brand you buy, most are a size Newborn (N) or 1 (one). Good luck and congrats..let us know how everything goes.

I was terrified as well. But when you get there, all the nurses and doctors take over, and everything happens so fast, you really don't have time to get scared. Just look away when they stick you with a needle, and you'll be fine. Labor does hurt - the closest way to describe the pain is, its alot like when you have stomache cramps and have to sit on the toliet for a long time. Get an epidural. Get a good person like your mom, husband or best friend to go through it with you. Child birth is easy - being a mom is the hard part.

It's going to be fine! I have 4 kids and got through them all without an I.V. You may want to consider the epidural, if you have a hard time with pain... I was being stubborn, so didn't get it. ( I have a thing about needles) Newborns wear newborn size diapers, then size one, two etc. ( it should show how many pounds on the bag, too) . Of you have a very big baby, you may just go right to size ones. If you have any questions, please contact me, I'd be happy to help(or if you want more details)God bless!

You have the right to refuse the IV. I never let them stick me with an IV when I'm in labor. Once they put the IV in you aren't allowed to get out of bed. Walking, showering, rocking in a chair, getting a massage, etc. help to ease the pain of labor, but you can't do them w/ an IV in. If you are healthy you can ask that they leave the IV out (as long as you are doing natural childbirth). Also, don't expect free stuff from the hospital, they are too cheap to give you anything.
