hmm...how old are you? Still a youngster? No matter how well you sing, get some voice lessons. If not and youre still singing in the shower or in the car, then head out to music schools, music stores, even karoake clubs and start singing publicly. Of course even us oldsters can use lessons too.
Youll hear people singing "better" than you and "worse" than you but that doesnt really matter unless you want to sing opera. As long as youre on tempo and on key, youll do just fine.
Sometimes is not what you know but who you know but really, who wants to hear a backup singer who sings poorly. If you sing and people turn their heads to see who you are, then you might have that "star" quality that your audience and/or someone famous is looking for.
Always remember, your audience never wants to see anyone have a temper tantrum if things go awfully wrong even if when assigned less noticeable singing part. Thats what being a professional entertainer is all about....rolling with the punches unless youre into some sort of gothic stuff. If you can at least pretend youre having fun, your audience will have fun along with you.
Best of luck!

Audition. Send in tapes to record companies/producers along with a letter/resume outlining what your talents are.
Why just be a backup singer an not the headliner? Think BIG! Don't sell yourself and talents short...

I don't think the community guidlines will allow me to answer that question......
Think submissive posture.
Good luck with that....
