what is the easiest and best way to play any movie I download on my media player? It keeps saying I need codecs to play file

Go to http://divx.com and download the free codec from there.

Well, you could download a codec pack... but they tend to come with adware and spyware and I've even seen them make Windows Media Player and almost ANY media player stop working completely.
The four most used codecs are:
DivX - http://www.divx.com/
XviD - http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
DVD - http://www.bleedinedge.com/download/dvd_codec.zip
AC3 Audio - http://ac3filter.net/
I would install these 4 and then AVOID Codec packs.
