Brussell sprouts, brocolli. fall cabbage, turnips, carrots, raddishes all will grow through winter and endure moderate freezing. I live in central Washington and usually have to pull up these plants when I restart my garden in the spring.

Where are you? If you have a 5 foot layer of snow over the winter, winter gardens need to be in a greenhouse.

I live in the Central Valley of California, winter minimum temps about 28 degrees, leafy veggies, cabbages, broccoli, leeks. works well.

Myself, I plant a salad garden: tomatoes, onions, lettuce, spinach, and mesclun (a mixture of lettuces, mustard, etc... to spice up the salad). Salad crispins, croutons, and Hidden Valley Ranch - BLT flavor (the absolute best).
