I'm thinking of buying an area 51 7500 system but found a dell and customized it with most of the simliar hardware (but not all: liquid cooling, alien ice, alien fx lighting system, light scribe) but could easily upgrade for one or two hundred more dollars. But the dell was for $1500 LESS!!! I know alienware has way better quality especially compared to dells exploding batteries but a 1500 dollar difference is a lot, please explain

many reasons. your talking about the dell xps right? they are great computers, but if you want to upgrade them later, the memory has to be dell memory and it is ridiculously expensive. with alienware, you mostly pay for the name. but their cases are really amazing and they can come water cooled and with temperature sensors and ridiulous LED lights on the inside.

Its all in the name, man! Alienware is known for top quality GAMING computers with exotic cooling and a good light show with a window to boot. On the other hand Dell is known for quality WORKSTATIONS that don't have too many frills but do get the work done and for their excellent support. NOW, Alienware also good support and all that but their gear is aimed at power users that also happens to be gaming fanatics; this is one reason why they sell their computers at such a high price (because the hardest critics of computer hardware are in fact their costumers). Also they do so many things to their computers that hardly any other company does to theirs (excluding Voodoo and Falcon Northwest) and has such an amazing level of detail that their machines are considered works of arts; IE car grade paint, laser cut windows, custom lighting and cooling and (its a rumor) origami-style cable folds Ala Voodoo. No wonder they cost so much considering Dells XPS system has almost all the same parts and costs way less. Its all in the style and craftsmanship.

Why not try Building a computer yourself. You have a thousand different parts to choose from each with it's certain tweaks. So go on the internet, reaserch what you want, find the cheapest price for the part and buy it. Then it's a matter of plugging it all in. Try it, you will get more satisfaction unlike the Rolling Stones.

Guess you missed the news flash - Dell owns Alienware now. Has for several months.

Check out the Acquisition section of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alienware

As for the batteries - they are made by Sony - and sony makes batteries for MOST laptops, so assuming it's just Dell is wrong.

As for the difference... maybe we could explain it... IF YOU PROVIDED DETAILS ON BOTH CONFIGS - LIKE WHAT MODEL DELL?

You would really need to give exact specs, but for one thing I can tell you that a good liquid cooling system will cost at least $500 to begin with.
