I just want to know which is better. I don't often do either (in fact, I've only ever played Halo 2 only three times), but I would like to focus on one or the other when I've got time to improve my violin skills based on which is more effective for strengthening the hand and finger muscles.

I've played violin for over 20 years, but I always welcome improvement, and I am willing to do what is necessary to improve.

I doubt that either of them is much use for a musician. As an amateur pianist, I don't know exactly what strengthening exercises you need, but might I suggest you learn Morse code and become an amateur radio operator. Morse code is all about spacing and length of sounds (rhythm) and a Morse code key uses the wrist extensively. You can always find other radio operators by the funny antennae in their yards and they will direct you to a course and equipment.

I'd say it would only improve your reflexes. If you want to increase your finger or hand strength. Squeeze a palm size ball (tennis ball or stress ball for ex.). Or get one of those resistance clips that you can squeeze to your hearts content.

i would try lifting weights with your fingers. like try lifting a 1/2 gallon of milk with each of your fingers and do reps and stuff.
