I actually apply it a lot in life - I like to call myself a pleasure delayer particularly in bedroom matters. I'm not saying anymore at the risk of incriminating myself.

Yes, I do believe in delayed gratification. Why simply because we cannot always know the results of the efforts we put into our lives or hobbies or jobs or special projects until after completion, and when this occurs and we are justified by the results it ensues a delayed gratification.

Beyond having heard the term, I don't know what delayed gratification amounts to. From what I'm gathering from these answers, though, it sounds a little like denying yourself supper because it smell so good. To hell with that.

Learned it early in life and live it as thoroughly as I can in the current culture. Sure saves money as I do so little impulse buying. Makes me feel like my life is in control. Also makes those things that you work for more delicious, literally and figuratively.

Has kept me from getting into the credit mess that so many people do. Always save money and buy a new car with cash. Have my home almost paid off early.

BUT, if everyone was like me, I think the economy would collapse.

Yes, but I couldn't wait to answer this question. So much for delayed gratification. But yes, it gives me the opportunity to practice restraint, self control, and eventually what I wanted at that moment isn't really what I wanted at all.

Absolutely---I believe in delayed gratification and have applied it to many things in my life. Such as getting a college education. Sometimes sticking it out, rather sucked, but I did it; and now I am grateful [gratified] that I did.

Just one example...

Always? No. Otherwise I couldn't answer your question.

But I can put off gratification if circumstances call for it.
