Lets say i want to buy an ipod from best by and it is 199.99. what would the price be after sales tax, and how would you figure it up?

Figure out what the tax rate is, say 8 1/4, than take the price and multiply by 1.0825 - this gives you the total plus tax.
199.99 x 1.0825 = price plus tax

Multiply the purchase price by the local tax rate. If the rate is kind of hard to use, round it up to the nearest whole number and use that. If you have a calculator, add the decimal equivalent to 1. and multiply the purchase price by the sum. That will give you the total price including sales tax.

You multiply the sales price by the sales tax and add it to the item price. Or, you could multiply the price by 1 and the tax amount to get the total. FOr example, if the tax rate was 5%. you'd multiply $199.99 x 1.05 for a total of $209.99.

Do what everyone said -- but here is a list of state sales tax. Please note -- *sometimes* counties have higher sales tax then the state minimum.

It depends on your state; here in Chicago it's 9.5%, so I just round it up to 10% and go from there.
To figure percentages, take how much the percentage is, and divide it by the price- it will give you how much tax would be charged. Add that to your price, and voila.

In Texas the sales tax is 8.25 percent so just add 8.25 to the price. EX; $100.00 would be 108.25.

depends on where you live at man. Its 6% in sc and 7% in nc. Just take the item...199.99 and times it by your % like 6 so it would be 199.99 x .06. Take that answer and add it to the 199.99.
