I think it's better not to have a specific party. Just vote for the person and what they believe. Not what party they are for :)

Pay attention to the debates and read the newspaper. Sometimes they will print a kind of cheat-sheet of what each candidate is saying they will do or what they are for. You don't have to be a Democrat or a Republican, you can be an Independent or decide that the Green Party is more to your liking. It gets even more complicated when you concider that you can be a Democrat and still be conservative or be a Republican and be a bit more liberal. As you pay attention, you'll notice that some people seem to be more of one while they say they are the other. It get's confusing sometimes. Whatever you do, stick to it and go with how your own heart feels about a subject, rather than listening to people who might not have a clue but still seem to always have an opinion! Welcome to adulthood and good luck!

Before I address your question, young lady, I want to comment upon Sloth655 response. You must realize that he represents only himself, and not his party, although sadly there are others in his party that have the same narrow minded, petty, and entirely prejudicial point of view. Right now it is true, more Democrats than Republicans do not support the policies of this administration, but that does not mean that they hate this country. It simply means that they want this country to go in a different direction. You have to choose your own party or as one person said, you can choose to be an independent. The only drawback with being an independent is that you cannot vote in a primary election. You just have to decide whether that is important to you. Listen to the various candidates who are running for national office and for your local and state offices and try to decide which one is saying things that make sense to you. Try to study about the issues and listen to all points of view and try not think emotionally but rationally and intellectually. This will help you make a good choice. Good luck.

It is most likely that no political party fits your beliefs. Just look at the agendas of each candidate regardless of party, and chose the one which suits you best.
The candidate and party will probably differ from election to election.
If it was me, I would vote only for a candidate who was against war, and who agreed to not support any war, and to work to stop any current wars. What's most important to you? Let that decide.

If you care about the environment, the health and welfare of other members of society, veterans benefits, individual liberty, small business prosperity and the principles upon which this nation was founded, then vote democratic.

If you think that corporate welfare (i.e. free handouts to big business) is more important than the health and safety of the citzenry and our soldiers, prefer radical conservative demagoguery to rational thought, prefer vitriolic fundamentalism to freedom of religion, and think that bribery of public officials is okay then you should vote republican.
