What about Malkin? Will he make Crosby better?

Overchin because he is more skilled but I think over time as Crosby ages he will catch up with Ovechkin. Dion Phaneuf is awesome. He is going to be the best defenceman in the league within a few years. As a rookie he played like a seasoned veteran.

The decision about Crosby or Ovechkin will depend on how will each guy be able to use his teammates in the future, who those teammates will be, and the level of success that each guy will be able to elevate his team to. It's too early to tell, I say.

The case is different with Phaneuf. Somebody will correct me on this - but - I think that there hasn't been ANY defenceman to win the Calder since Raymond Bourque. The fact that there's at all any talk about Phaneuf deserving the Calder tells a lot. D is much much harder of a position at the NHL level than forward. For a rookie D to get 20 goals for the first-place team in the toughest division in hockey, and not only be a D with a plus rating, but do it when often he was paired as the top tandem of D against the top opposing forwards - I can't recall any rookie D that could have done this since Bourque. Supposedly in many games he was even looked to more than Regehr as the D the team was most leaning on. And this is a team that depends on the goaltending and the D. He had a bad playoffs but they were facing a hot team, and we're talking about the regular season here when we talk about the best rookie. Crosby and Ovechkin had no playoffs at all.

Who's better - Crosby or Ovechkin? Too early to tell. Phaneuf?
Between rookie forwards and rookie D is comparing apples and oranges - but, all things considered - Phaneuf should've got it.

Ovenchkin..so what if he's a few years older? They have the same NHL experience and the Russian league that Ovenchkin played in and the junior league that Crosby played in were probably right about equal (maybe Ovenchkin's was slightly more competitive). Also, Ovenchkin was doing more with less. Crosby was under the guidance of the great Mario Lemuix and playing with well seasoned vets, but in Ovenchkin's case: can you name one person on the Captials other than him?

Ovenchkin was considered to be captain of the Caps before he resigned from the running, Crosby takes too many stupid penalties to have that role. Although both have amazing offensive games, Crosby lacks the defensive abilities that Ovenchkin has. Also, Ovenchkin creates more opportunities and chances than Crosby.

Maybe Crosby needs a few more years, but I have a feeling that Ovenchkin will keep the edge (it may be small, but he'll have it).

The age difference Crosby is 2years younger than ovechkin. So if Crosby was 2 years older than he could have scored more goals than ovechkin.

Ovechkin is the better all round player.

Phanuef had a great year last year and he looks to be an up and coming superstar. He's a big kid who can skate and hit...

Crosby is a goal scorer, but he can't take care of himself. Ovechkin can hit, skate, score...he is and will be one of the best of the game.

Ovechkin is no doubt better than Crosby. He had the numbers to prove it and he doesn't whine like Crosby. Crosby is too overrated.

DOWN WITH CROSBY

They're both awesome but Crosby is more complete and will have a longer career than Ovechkin.
