I have a 1.3Ghz P4 PC with 256MB Rambus memory, 64MB Ti4200 video. i just recently installed XP Pro on this machine and now the CPU stays constantly at 100%. found the cause of the CPU usage to be high was from the spoolsv.exe svc running. If this is needed to print what is my option to stop it from using all my CPU?

Sounds like you have a Sony PC. Rambus is expensive... but you will need to add more memory as XP needs at least 256mb memory to run.

Get another stick of 256mb rambus memory. That will solve your problem. They are only around $20 US or cheaper. You could also go back to your previous Operating System if you were happy with it.

I ran into the same problem after installing Service Pack 2. Sorry, I never found thew answer. You may free up some the usage by running a memory defrag program like, "Ram Def Xtreme". It is free and can be found using your search engine.

Press Control, Alt, Delete to bring up the Task Manager. On the bottom is Commit Charge. Running XP for me shows it using 269MB of Memory. You need another stick of memory.

i would recomend u buy ram but that computer is a little out of date and buying more ram would be more expensive than just buying an new 500 to 800 dollar system from some circuit city or best buy, even target or walmart
what i mean is you need a new system
even better, dont just buy one compatible with xp pro, get one that will support the new windows vista os comming out soon

It's probably because you need more RAM. However, Rambus memory is problematic because it can only be installed in matched pairs...meaning that you will need 2 memory sticks. Rambus is expensive. Bummer!

256MB RAM is not enough to run XP Pro. Since you have already installed XP Pro, you should upgrade your RAM to at least 512MB, and be sure to buy the same kind of RAM.
It is better to take the RAM from your CPU to the store so they can match.
Good luck.

Update your windows to the end, if this continues check the voltages on the motherboard which are mostly set by jumpers.
