My boyfriend is wanting to be a doctor-pediatrician to be more specific. we have heard a few different estimates of how long it will take ranging from 6-10 years. also, how long of residency before he can practice and get paid for it, lol? if you can help us with any part of this, we will truly appreciate it. and please, only serious answers. thanks. blessed be.

4 under grad + 4 med school + 2 internship + 1 residency = 11 minimum.

Internship and residency come with paychecks but long, long hours. Sometimes 24, 36 and even 48 hours shifts.

It may be hard for both of you so make sure you have your own life. Don't loose yourself in his studies and career.

Check the program at the school you want to attend. If you don't have the undergrad degree yet start there. Med schools are competitive in the US so sometimes people do the school in another country and come back for the internship here. You're looking to spend about 11 yrs depending. By the way once you're through med school the military is an option for experience and loan forgiveness. After a few years 3-4 of med school you intern at a hospital usually and that's another couple years. Good luck (it's very expensive)

4 years undergraduate (or however long it takes you)
4 years of medical school (U.S.)
3-8 years of residency depending on the field of medicine you choose
-basic pediatrician is a total of 3 years residency, if he wants to specialize it is 2-3more years.
-internship is the same as the first year of residency

Then he can practice on its own.

Four undergrad; but today no one does four, unless mommie and daddie are putting you through college, so more like five undergrad, another six medical, including two specialized. After that you'll be paying off loans for another five. So he'll be making money in possibly 12years.

Good luck guyz!

4 undergrad, 4 med school, 2 (?) internship. You get paid as an intern, but not much.
