It depends on the amount of time and temperature variations the oil has been put through. Even if you had 0 miles on the oil but the car has sat for a year the oil would be no good. The kind of oil used also makes a huge difference(synthetic, semi-synthetic, or mineral). How hard the car has been driven is another consideration. If car has been driven in a city under heavy traffic with lots of idling or if it was just mostly freeway driving. The best bet is just to just change the oil but if you are determined to find the best time to always change your oil based on your driving habits and time it would wise to get a UOA(Used oil analysis). They can tell you exactly how much or little wear the engine is sustaining and also tell you the amount of addictive package left in the oil which would tell you whether the oil needs to be changed or not

Being that it sits plenty without being pushed, you need to substitute the oil a minimum of once a three hundred and sixty 5 days, if not two times a three hundred and sixty 5 days. The oil will destroy down through the years and the substances might want to evaporate out of the oil. even as oil receives previous, it turns to a greasy sludge, and that is not sturdy on your motor. even regardless of the reality that you don'tchronic the automobile oftentimes, this is probable a sturdy theory to a minimum of initiate the engine once each and every 2-4 weeks andchronic it some miles to get it as a lot as temperature and bypass the oil and fluids in the course of the engine andchronic prepare. Seals can dry out quickly in the experience that they are not saved lubricated. it may sound humorous, in spite of the undeniable fact that the worst difficulty you would possibly want to do to a automobile is notchronic it.

Sheesh, what's with those other answers!

What is the recommended oil change interval listed in the owner's manual or shop manual?

Yes, most modern oils should be able to last 5000 miles. 3000 miles if you drive in dusty conditions or hard driving. The more frequently you change the motor oil, the better. It will remove the contaminants and particles. But you should be ok.

not unless its synthetic oil it isn't,,synthetic oil is the only oil that will hold up and go for that long,,without breaking down,,other wise id say you need a oil change on it,,dirty oil will really mess a good engine up real fast,,i own a repair shop, and i suggest you get it changed unless it has synthetic oil in it,,other wise you may do some harm to it,,good luck,i hope his help,s.
