In order for the Yankees to win the divison is a combination of 6 Yankee wins and Red Sox loses and a combination of 4 Yankee wins and Blue Jays loses. For example: If the Yankees win their next two games, Jays lose their next two games, and the Red Sox, say, lose their next four games then the Yanks would make it to the playoffs and Boston will have to hope for a Twins and ChiSox collaspe.

Any combination of Boston loses and Yankee wins that add up to 6 and the Yankees are once again AL East Champs.
