1993 toyota camry (4 cyl)

the car ac works well, relatively speaking, but it only blows cold air when im moving, or when the engine speed is higher than idle. it blows cold if i rev the engine up past ~2K when i'm sitting at a light. however, when the car is idling the air coming out is barely "cool".

both the aux fans work btw.

I had the same problem. It's the fans. they are usually behing the grill of your car. That is what help keeps your engine cool at an idle. Which would explain why your a.c. works better when the car is moving. If that's not it then you may need a re-charge or a new compressor and dryer.

i would say you are low on r12 freon. NOT all repair shops still use R12 . DONT let anyone contaminate your system by useing a blend /orR12 replacement. ther are only TWO types of freon approve for automotive systems r12 and r 134a. using anything other than these will cause ac system damage.IF you cameinto my shop i would check it out and if everything looked good except freon level i would recharge with r12. IF there was a problem i would recommend PROPERLY retro fitting the vehicle

Sounds like you need to hook up the gauges.15 year old worn compressor low (high side) and slightly higher (low side). Plugged expansion valve high (high side) and vacuum on the (low side) Pressure vary by temp use 30 psi low and 300 psi high as a guide. A good A/C tech will feel hoses and tubes then go on to check pressures. Get ready to spend money to convert the system to R-134 from R-12 then repair the problem

the a/c belt might be loose or the condensor is stopped up. get a water hose and sprayer and rinse the back side of radiator and the front of the condensor. it may even be low on freon.

sounds like you have a short in your AC wiring. when your alternator kicks in when you step on the gas it probably overrides the short allowing your blowers to work properly for your AC. Thats just my opinion. take it to a mechanic to look at it. NOT YOUR TOYTA DEALER. they will take all your money then kill you.
