I have an ok mile time right now (7:10) and I could probably get it down a little more. What good mile time for a track person - just as in comparison to mine.

it really will vary from area to area, and it also depends on the size of your school.
7:10 sounds like a good place to start. The top girls in the country are breaking 5 minutes. I'd say 6:15 should be competitive for scoring in most meets.

You can probably find your state's state meet results on the web. That will give you an idea. Also try asking your coach for conference results, that will give you an intermediate goal.

Good luck. Train hard if you want to lower your time.

For high school female teams that win meets, the average time for a mile is around 6:47 or faster if you average all the times for the team.

"Mile" times (like for a 5k cross country run) are very different than shorter "track" distances, however. I've seen other girls run the 10 meter in 11 seconds in high school, which is amazing! (But no way could they run a mile at that pace.)

I think most track people can do a mile in about 6 minutes.

If that's as far as you're gonna run.... 5:30ish... you need to cut it down a bit. A mile may seem long. But in competiion.. if you're only running a mile... it's quick!
