The key is to find some excellent foundation first. What's your skin type?
Oily --> go for matte foundations
Dry--> go for dewy foundations
Pimply-->go for some good coverage
Smooth-->go for a transparent kind of foundation
But more importantly than the foundation is that you need to have excellent skincare. (that's another topic, ask me if you want to know more)
If you want a blush that works all the time, go for a neutral-coloured powder blush (colours are categorised as warm or cold--pick one that is neither). Look for colours with the word "beige" or ones that match the colour of your lips/lip makeup. Personally I prefer powder blushes because I find it easier to make it look natural.
Have excellent lighting by your mirror. Stroke your brush across your blush. Smile. Start stroking from the spot of your cheekbone near your eye down to the apple of your cheek (the part that accentuates when you smile) and move your brush up and down in a figure-8. However, if you have a long or heart-shaped face, you may not want to go as far up as your eye level. Either way, the key is to keep it SUBTLE.
Also, try bronzer. Apply this lightly on your T-area (forehead and nose), cheekbones, and chin (spots where the sun's supposed to hit you first). This makes a world of a difference to your foundation. You can use bronzer with or without blush--with blush it can only make your rosy cheeks even look more natural.

what I found id that if you get a liquid blush (Clanique has a great bunch if blushes) and put it on before you put on your finishing powder. and her is the trick. Those lil foam rubber make-up applicators. you know u get 500 for like a dollar at Wal-mart, wet it, squeeze it out and then smooth out your blush on top of the foundation. it stays put when you put in the powder (remember to let it set for a min) also fo this with the foundation and concealer (the wet foam applicator) it thins everything out and makes it look like plump new skin. Plus u use less make up per application. Courtesy of Tyra Banks.........Have Fun!!

you need to visit a department store and ask a cosmetologist. There is no way that anyone can help you online with applying blush or giving you the correct shade when you did not provide YOUR COLORING.

a light brown would look best. blend it in very well. there's these brushes that are large to help you spread it. make sure its not just on your cheeks.
