That website influenced the shooter!

It was a horrific thing to happen. Terrible to have these young peoples' lives affected this way. I think that the shooter, Mr.Gill, was mentally ill, and that the website you mentioned was a place for him to go to feel normal. Like the suicide bombers, this man felt alienated and powerless, and talking about violence gave him a false sense of power. The killings and his own suicide gave him a sick hope for notoriety after he died. Just tragic.

It's so sad. That young man was terribly troubled and I'm not saying all goths are terribly troubled here.

I think it's sad that people have made the two young men from Columbine heroes of sort and are doing copycat type crimes.

This isn't the first mass killing in Montreal, first the mysognist at the Polytech in December of 89, then the prof at Concordia who killed some other professors and now this with Dawson College.

I think we need better mental health places in Canada , not just Quebec, where kids at risk can be identified and help given to them. We need places for adults with mental health problems. We need more psychiatrists and psychologists not to congregate in the big urban centres but in more small rural areas to help with mental health problems here.

We also need to find out why there are so many mental health problems. Is it fetal alcohol syndrome? Is parents using drugs while they're pregnant? Is it congenital or inheirited? Is it the mass media, music, video games, movies, tv?

We just don't know enough about the root causes of mental illness and how to intervene and help.

What are you asking? Are You asking if we are horrified by this or do you think this was justified? I live in Montreal. My best friend's daughter was stuck inside the school. It was a senseless, cowardly thing that this disturbed man did. Just google our newspaper, the Montreal Gazette & read about the girl he killed. I can't imagine how this family is coping. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Dawson College Community. It's left our city grieving again, after the Polytechnique schooting at University de Montreal in 1989.
