Vancouver and southern coastal BC are a (canadian) Zone 6b to Zone 7. The USDA chart registers zone 8. In either case, the indicator plants for this area usually will not survive past minus 10 celcius for a length of time.

well that depends on whether you are using the US or the Canadian scale ...on the canadian scale vancouver is in Zone 8a or 8b...the us scale it's zone 4.
