Click on the View menu and then .Toolbars...check Standard Buttons

It sounds like you did something to shrink your toolbar... but here's a trick for the future that I love, and it actually moves the pages back and forward faster than the buttons in the toolbar....
Hold the "alt" button and click the right (forward) or left (back) arrow at the same time.

Click on view on the tool bar then click on toolbar in the drop down menu then click custom . then add them to the right menu from the left menu.

Right click on your toolbar and click where it says standard buttons.

right click on one of your buttons,
select customize and you'll get an menu to add buttons.
