I've heard wonders about Mylicon, but I'm using Gerber gas drops for my 5 week old boy and it doesn't seem to help much. Is Mylicon better?

Mylicon is good but I heartily recommend finding Gripe Water. Works much better than Mylicon.

I used mylicon drops, ran out and my husband picked up the Gerber drops. I hated it! It seemed like if it did work for my son it was a good 45 minutes. The mylicon drops seemed to work within 10 minutes. Mylicon has my vote!

Gerber Gas Drops

Mylicon is a name brand for the medication simethicone. Look at a bottle of mylicon, see what the strength of the simethicone is, and look on any brand of anti-gas drops for infants. If it is the same medication and the same strength, you will get the same results. For my children and grandchildren, I always bought store brands. Worked just as well. Sometimes the flavor may be a bit different. Often my children liked the store brand better.

They both contain simethicone - the key ingrediant in reducing gas.

An at home remedy that I found worked even better:

You need a tin of altoids. Take one and crush it and from that, a very small piece of the broken mint.

In a small baby bottle you'll put the mint and a small amount of boiling hot water (perhaps half an ounce). Swish this around until the mint is disolved.

Fill the bottle the rest of the way with cool water. You'll want the mint water to be warm enough for the baby to drink, but of course, not too hot. Just as you would if you were giving the baby a bottle of anything else.

You can tell by smell and taste if you have enough or not enough mint. Altoids are strong, so a little goes a long way. Taste it yourself, you should be able to detect the mint, but just mildly.

It is not necessary to give the baby the entire bottle. Just part of the bottle should do.

This works great at soothing sore baby tummies, even in ones as young as your five week old.

Mylicon was the only one for me, tried others and they just didn't work as well, but again I will say the same thing I do every time I answer a question like this. CALL YOUR PEDIATRICIAN before you make any changes to your babies diet or medications.

Mylicon has just been around for a while.. you can try it.. I am sure you are willing to try anything at this point. I used a big excercise ball .. I held the baby and sat on it and bounced.. my hubby used to bend the babies knees in towards the tummy.. hold for a second or two and then release.. a few times of this and he just "squeezed" the farts right outta the baby.. good luck!

Yes. I have 3 kids, one is a newborn.
Mylicon is worth it's weight in gold.
They even have it for adults.

They are all the same active ingredient with a different pricetag. Mylicon is just name brand and most expensive.
