Abreva is the best thing I have found. It is kinda pricey but it works well. If the fever blister is just starting, like that tingle that you feel, put ice on the spot and it can decrease the swelling and possible decrease the size. Don't put alcohol or salt on the site, this can just cause increase pain. But do remember that it is a virus and can be spread by touch, especially in the early stage before it start to crust.

Keep you hands off of it. It is a virus and you could spread it. You can actually put salt on it to help it dry up, but either wash your hands after or use a cue tip.

Abreva works, an OTC med.
