A government should provide what it is mandated to do. If you want everyone to have health care well someone has to pay for it...are you willing to pay for it? Just remember for every 10 cents in you will only see 2 cents applied....if you are lucky.

There once was a dream called Social Security.....many paid into it and are still paying into it but by the time they retire they won't see a cent. Now imagine if they took over healthcare.

Regardless of what crap people like Marty and Colorado try to get you to believe, Here in Canada our hospitals are as clean & as efficient as anywhere else. The major difference between our systems is everyone has access to them. In the US you have 15 million more than the entire population of our country with no insurance whatsoever. It's not free, we pay for it in taxes. Some pay more than others depending on your income. All EU countries have some form of Universal insurance. Even Iraq , before the invasion had the same. Cuba, has probably the best in the world, although Denmark is right up there. But then again ,the US still has Capital punishment & tortures their prisoners. What more can I say. Civilized or non-civilized??? Your choice!

The government already provides health care to millions of people. They just don't do it very well.

My wife has had ulcers for 15 years. We made too much to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to afford health insurance. It wasn't offered at work, so it would have cost $400 / mo.

Her condition worsened until she was 'uninsurable' (she couldn't buy it at any price). Uninsurable people qualify for Medicaid, regardless of income. Now she is so sick that she qualifies.

Last year alone, taxpayers spent $350,000.00 on one hospital stay for her. They also paid for double by-pass surgery, two gastrectomies, rides to her doctors, a dozen medications monthly, specialists, tests, etc. She has cost taxpayers well over a million dollars in the last five years.

Group health insurance costs about $100 per mo. per individual. In other words, taxpayers spent $1 million to save $18,000 over the last 15 years. Real smart math.

BTW, she is in the hospital right now, contemplating a complete gastrectomy and removal of her esophagus. She will come home to home health nurses, 24 hour feeding tube and pain meds. All paid for by taxpayers, thank you very much.

Had she been treated 15 years ago, taxpayers would have spent less than $10,000 on her care.

Yes, the purpose of government is to provide for the welfare of its citizens, spending all those $$ on defense isn't all that worth it if quality of live issues like good healthcare isn't equally important. Besides South Africa, the USA is the only industrialised country in the world without national health care.

No,altho it is so in the Uk and Canada..,look how expensive it is to live in both countries and the high taxes..,no such thing as free health care..,in the end everyone pays and dearly. Not to mention the waiting list for a minor surgery or even for a check up.I dont want the government telling me how many times I can or cant go to the doctor..,i go when i need to.

I think it needs to be done State by State and paid half by the State and have by Business. If every four years we voted on which plan we wanted, we would get a say in it. Since it is state by state there would still be competition in order to keep prices down, but if every insurance form in the whole state was the same it would cut down on the number of people needed in doctor's offices to figure out how to fill out each insurance companies forms.
We could have a base insurance and if people wanted to buy their own above and beyond plan offered by another insurance that would be allowable.

no, i think doctors should be the ones who provide healthcare. if you are asking about socialized medicine, i dont think it would work out to be quite as nice as it sounds. just imagine if our hospitals became as inneficient as our government agencies(like the dmv for instance). politics have a way of tainting everything that they become involved in.

Yes. It is a sin that the American government can spend billions on a stupid war, but can't take care of its people.

Absolutely. Other countries do it very successfully. There are so many people out there dying and suffering with no insurance. Our government needs to step up and help.

Yes, look at all the illegeal people in this country that get everything for free. But do you think we get it free like they do. And what makes it so bad, is we are US Citizens and they are not. So therefore we pay for all their bills and free welfare. I think they all need to go back to their own countries. We didn't come to their country, they came to ours. And I also think that we should not have to learn their lanagage, they came him so therefore they should learn to speak ours. If they want to come here, they need to make some changes to their life and we should not have to adapt to theirs
