My friend recently lost his job, his been there for 5 years and he wants me to help him write a good letter.

He's a co-worker, he's 65 years old and I just feel for him. He tells it like it is!

Where did your friend work? Did he work in a union environment?

If you live in a right-to-work state no letter will get you a job back once you've been terminated. You simply aren't worth the risk to the employer. Involuntary terminations are extremely difficult and filled with potential liability. Once you sack someone they are generally considered ineligible for rehire, so there is no chance of further issue.

There simply is not enough information in this question to formulate much of a letter. The issues that led to his dismissal should be reviewed and discussed to the degree that the reader can see his point of view. Other than that I would need more detail.

If they let you go or you got fired or downsized, it's time to look elsewhere. I get the sense he wants to go back to the same company. I suggest no.

if you belong to a union. Have the union work to get his job back that is why they are there.
