Doctors are saying I am diag. with a threatened abortion(miscariage)...I have been bleeding all week and have passed blood clots. I took a pregnancy test today and it was still positive. Can you have a miscariage and still be testing positive??? I am not very far along.. I don't even think I am 4wks yet.

Yes you can still have a positive pregnancy test because you still have the hormone for pregnancy in your system and as a result until all the hormone is gone you will still get positive pregnancy tests. You should be having your blood drawn every 2-3 days to check for the hormone because if it is not going down you will need a D&C to remove any parts of the pregnancy that did not leave on their own. It is a hard thing to go through and you will feel like you did something wrong, but there was nothing you did or did not do that caused this and you will cry, but you can find lots of support from other women who have gone through the same thing. They will cry with you and support you. Don't listen if someone tries to blame you for this miscarriage they are just ignorant fools and you will have another pregnancy and you will eventually have a beautiful baby to hold

I'm so sorry for your loss.

When I had my miscarriage, I tested positive until two weeks after the baby had passed from me. So the answer is yes, you can have a miscarriage and still have a positive pregnancy test. It may take a little while for the pregnancy hormone to leave your system.

Yes... the pregnancy tests detect a hormone called HCG. Those hormones have already been produced in your body so therefore they are still being detected in your urine or blood.

yes you can, it happened to me before, I had 3 miscarriages, even though you are still bleeding from miscarriage, but it will take a while for your hormone to get back to normal, that's why if you are taking a pre test you will get a positive.

God bless you and good luck to you.

yes it takes a week or so for your levels to go back down. Also you may have not aborted yet or you could have not fully aborted. Call your dr. You may need a d&c.

Yes. The hormones released in your body are still there but it will clear up. Unless, of course, you had unprotected sex since then.
