Why can't they sell them for less if they chose to. Is this just a gimmick or a lie?
I live in upstate NY

It's probably only a gimmick, unless they really are selling them for the fifty cents (or whatever it's up to now) that is for the cigarette tax.

The amount of taxes added to the original selling price can change from a state to another.

Well they're taxed by the government, except on Native American reservations where they can be sold tax free.
