NOPE, I love them , they are cute, but I thought of cat litter and the vet said the stinky free chemicals would make them sick!
May be clean play sand, the type you get at home depot, and just rake off a layer every day, then you would only have to change the entire cage weekly??? I guess they just stink

I thought cedar shavings would be better then pine when my children had Guinea Pigs many years ago. That back fire on me. Seems Guinea Pigs urine combined with the cedar can cause allergic reactions, and it did. We found new homes for the Guinea Pigs and a beloved dog before we found out that this could happen from the use of cedar chips. Even the allergist thought it was the pets. We have two dogs now and no more problems. Since then our children have had hamsters, a ferret (which has its own special smell) and used pine bedding with a news paper base. You might try a thicker newspaper base and removing a few mid-week and a good clean out once a week to keep odor down. Are you using a aquarium set up? They are so much easier to clean. Good luck!

Actually guinea pigs smell good, but you must keep them clean, because their mess is stinky. Best thing to do is to let them free in the yard, just making sure they are free from hazard (larger animals, cutting gardening tools, etc.) and away from spots they could use to escape to the dangerous big world out there. Cage them only when absolutely necessary.

If you cleaned the cage every day and it stunk, the cage was way to small. One piggie needs at least a 4 square foot cage, changed no less than every three days.
If you don't have the discipline to take care of one, don't get one. To keep piggies healthy they need special care every day. Mine are all over 6 years old.

The only way to keep the smell down is to keep them clean. That means frequent cleaning any way you look at it. sorry.
