Well, tsunamis are not related in any way to hurricanes. A tsunami is caused by seismic activity under the ocean. Hurricanes begin as tropical storms and gain strength from there. The current theory says that as global warming has a greater effect on warming the oceans then hurricanes are more likely to form.

Actually this year, there have been a lot less, and there have been several articles about this. One theory is due to the currents in the Pacific Ocean have shifted - I'll try to find the article for you.
But, remember last year, hurricane Katrina late August and Rita end of September; and, as of now in 2006, Florence was the last hurricane. (They are done alphabetically each year)...so they're only up to the F's vs. the R's last year.
Also, by the way, while there is a lot of controversy over global warming, this is a very gradual process and doesn't explain year to variations.
Oh, and finally, tsunamis are usually caused by earthquakes or else landfalls (which in turn may be caused by earthquakes).

You know as a poeple we have really thru time only just started to record weather in our daily lives.
We tend to think that weather will only flucuate about 4 times a year in a pedictable manner based on our history.
When in all actuality our world has larger cycles. Its just that only recently we are discovering them. As you know this can cause us concern for fear of the unkown.
Hurricanes feed off of Warm water as these storms build they often times come close to the U.S.. When they reach the gulf of Mexico they can build back up in strength quickley after weakening from going over land like Cuba or Jamica.
Yes Global warming can and is warming our oceans, yes it can promote larger hurricanes under the right circumstances.
However we have alot of other Factors that must work together for large disasterous storms like Katrina to occur.
Tsunamis are another act of nature that can happen but large ones like the one that hit Indoniesia happen less often because they appear with specific earthquakes near subduction zones.
They tend to happen every 300 to 400 years when one of earths plates moves on top of anither plate then meets resistance many years pass then it releases.
This effect cause's a subduction quake and if the epicenter(the location of the quake) is under water it can also cause a Tsunami larger than normal like the one in Indoniesia.
Truthfully we have seen evidence of extremely large tsunamis in are past and we now realize that under the right circumstances land slides from earthquakes can and have caused what scientists call MEGA Tsunamis that can grow to 1200 fett in height like the one that hit Latuya Bay in Washington Statein the late 50's and again in the early 70's
If this causes you concern or worry dont let it get to you its just your mind trying to comprehend such large events
Realize this weather and natural events have always shaped the way we as people live on this planet and that will always be the case.
life is short and you need to enjoy it and marvel at this worlds beauty and strength.

It is a weather cycle. These things can go for 20-30 years, then stop and something else comes around like a drought. It isn't Armageddon.

Mother Nature is getting back for having had so much garbage in the air and water. The temperatures are going up and laws of physics are lashing out.
