Does anyone know of a good home remedy to reduce the appearance of pores? If not, is there a good inexpensive product on the market you'd recomend?

Sorry to say, there is actually no real remedy for large pores, even if you wanted to spend tens of thousands of dollars as large pores are genetic. However, there are a few things you could do at home which can temporarily shrink them and keep them minimal.

a.) use a clay based mask weekly - it will draw out impurities, and tighten your skin, just be sure to moisturize appropriately afterwards. An inexpensive all time winner is Queen Helen's Mint Julep Mask which is like $3 or something at any drugstore. My favorite is Fresh Umbrian Clay Face Treatment which is $48 and in my opinion, well worth it.
b.) exfoliate 1-2 a week with a gentle exfoliant, keeping the pores clean. Many times, pores just appear to be larger than they actually are b/c dirt/oil have accumulated. There are so many exfoliants out there, I normally rely on the St. Ives Apricot Scrub, just be gentle, there is actually a gentle version out there! That is appx $3 a tube.
c.) use a gentle cleanser as not to exacerbate the pores; Many dermatologists and cosmetologist recommend Cetaphil which is an all time winner, and while I think that is a fantastic gentle cleanser, it doesn't lather at all (which actually means nothing, its just a mental sign of cleanliness that people identify with a cleanser, including myself). To bump it a step up, Purpose is also a very gentle cleanser that lathers a little and gives you a clean feeling without stripping your skin.

The importance of using the right cleanser and finding the right balance is key -- if you use a cleanser that is too harsh for your skin (resulting in a dry, tight feeling) remember that when your skin feels very dry, your facial skin will stimulate itself to create more oil and moisturize naturally, which can add to your pore size. Good luck! An interesting site you might want to refer to in terms of product is Allure's Best of.

my sister is using ice on her face once in a while and she told me that ice helps her minimize the appearance of her pores, i've tried it as well and its nice and somehow effective though.

however, if you really want to use more effective product, try this: there is a whole line by Avon that is called True Pore-Fection.
