My grow children think I should be at their beckon demand. Just because I am older they think I have no life. Or I am suppose to drop everything in my life if they need me for little petty things. I don't mind if they really need me, but this is getting rediculous.

We teach people how to treat us and, guess what? Your kids need to be taught a lesson or two about independence. Who is the parent in this deal anyway?

Somehow, somewhere these adult children seem to think that their OLD PARENT has no life -- and should STILL be responsible for their NEEDS!

What they have forgotten (and this is society-wide) is that at age 18 -- they are LEGALLY ADULTS -- and as such, should have the FULL Responsibilities and Obligations of Adulthood.

What parents have forgotten is that they have not fully let the BIRDIES FLY from the nest -- and to LEARN the HARD LESSONS that life does NOT always bring joy, and MOM or Parent will NOT always be the safety net there in place when they fall.

We do NOT need to be co-dependent on these Adult Children -- we do NOT need to ENABLE them in avoiding the RESPONSIBILITIES of Adulthood. If they need to fall, we need to LET THEM FALL!

SO for your own sanity -- invest in Caller ID Phone and Answering Machine/Service. LET the phone ring -- do NOT pick it up at first ring! LET them know by NOT answering every little thing, that you WILL NOT be there to "help them avoid" the Adult Responsibilities and Consequences for their Actions.

No' they don't. It's just that they want to test your patience at this stage. It'll get better in time.
