Assuming you're talking about hot in the sense "Oh, that's hot!" not in the hot=sexy kind of way...
Yes, it's the same thing. Old words need refreshing. Paris Hilton really pissed me off when she tried to act like she made up that word... I grew up in the projects and I've been using "that's hot" since I was 9 freakin years old.

I use the word cool a lot got it from my kids mostly and I still use it. I thought it was an older version of hot but I guess not.

cool is look good but hot everyone will know u and that call hot. if u cool when someone look at u he will like that u handsome or smart somthing like that but hot even someone never know u but he or she know that u is smart handsome or something elas.

Cool is more smooth, aloof, sunglasses and snazzy....hot is just hot....but I think cool is hot, so yeah they're pretty much the same :)
