that's scary but at 29 weeks there is hope. the baby will be small, around 1 or 2 lbs. it will have translucent skin but otherwise look normal.it will need to stay in the N.I.C.U. for a couple of months i am sure. doctors can do amazing things. as for your friend it can be heart breaking and tragic so be there for her to talk about it when she needs to and to just be. she'll need it.

A baby has a chance of survival after about 25 weeks. The chances are decent that your friend's baby will survive, but it will be a long road. The baby will be in the hospital for a while; undeveloped lungs and other issues, etc. They may be slightly delayed, etc.

My girlfriend and I went into labor on the same day, but she was 3 months early. She delivered at like 28 or 29 weeks. Our babies are now almost three, and hers is taller and heavier than mine! She is somewhat delayed in talking, and coordination and stuff, but in a normal way, as if she were three months behind my daughter, which is what she would be if she were born on her due date.

More than likely they will attempt to stop the labor, but if they can not a baby born at 29 weeks can survive but will need great care unfortunately. Just take a breath and pray on it God will see you all through this time and as long as your friend has taken great care of herself throughout the pregnancy her baby will be fine.

The baby will need special care for several weeks but at 29 weeks the odds for survival are in the baby's favor. I hope it turns out ok!!

Modern medicine is amazing. It is a good time to be born. The baby has a great chance of a full normal and healthy life. Your attitude and support will be a crucial part of baby and moms survival. Be a good friend, and listener. They really need you! Best of luck.

Baby's can survive as early as 24 weeks. The chances are good, alhough there may be tough road ahead for the next 3 months.

Babies can survive at this point and I know babies that have survived born even earlier. Our technology is amazing. That being said, your friend is in for a long haul. Probably a few months with baby in the special care nursery so babe has time to "grow." They will be watching for lung development, vision problems and brain bleeds. Best luck and prayers to her...

In today's modern technology a fetus is considered "Vitable" at 24 weeks... that means that with the proper care and barring any other unfortuanite problems, that the baby can survive outside of its mothers womb. I hope everything works out for them!

I find it hard to believe that the doctor's aren't giving her medicine to stop the labor from progressing. During one of my pregnancies I was into early labor and I had to take medicine until I was full term to keep from having the baby too early.

It is not a good sign to be in this early labor. It's possible with good care that the labor can be stopped so the baby can develop further before entering this world, but it's pretty iffy.

I'd say everyone needs to do some heavy praying and please help calm and console your friend as relaxing her will ease the contractions and help delay the birth as well.

May God bless all concerned.
