My sons little league team has been doing really poorly the past couple of seasons and so I pressured the coach into renaming the team.
I am one of the major financial supporters for uniforms, trips, and all that kind of thing.
I pretty much strong armed the coach into renaming the team the Red Sox, because I figured who knows, they may get lucky, and win it all.
Was this wrong for me to do this.

Don't you see that by renaming them the Red Sox, I gave them their best chance, as a team that sucks, to win a championship.

nope, the red sox are god's gift to humanity, and if they werent named the red sox now, they would still get no respect. I resperct them now just because of their name. GO SOX!!!!!!!

The ??? doesn't say if the team had the name of your business. If so, are you more concerned about how people look at your business because of a poor team?? That really seems like a strange way to get business, by removing your name from the front of a jersey or scoreboard. My son was on a horrible team that was very young and it took 3 years before they turned it around. The kids are not playing any better or worse because of the name on the dopey shirt. They play better by learning skills and attitude. Here's a great idea for you, start your own sponsored team and become the head coach and we'll all see you in the Little League World Series. That's a great plan. Go for it. And if by chance your team sucks you will see first hand how dumb the entire idea that a shirt can change the way a team plays is.

Yes,I think you were wrong in this case,by renaming the club you may have unintentionally added more pressure on your team to win.You are telling these kids hey your not good enough and then they will start trying to hard.Remember these are KIDS not professional athletes. Also stats show that 75% of competitive athletes will burn out by the age of 13,so let kids be kids.

No you were not wrong, but you must live in Red Sox territory??Was the original name sooo bad, when you think about it for the kids the name does not mean much, they could be "The Bad News Bears", as long as they can come out of their slump, and with the right coaching and parents they may be able. It is only a name.

Yes it was lame, bullying and stupid. As an adult, you should know better! It's a game and this is a game for kids. It's supposed to be fun and friendship and exercise and teamwork and such. It is not about the adults, business or your huge ego. Really sad. I hope they find new sponsors next year! Where is your sportsmanship buddy? Not real mature! Great role modeling for kids! I feel sorry for your wife! Your values are really messed up.

Strong armed implied physical threatening. If that is the case...then you were wrong.
If you threatened to pull your financial support from him, then no, you didn't do anything wrong. Just protecting your investment or trying to get the most out of it. (Even if the reasoning isn't sound.)
