There is terrorism - and has been terrorism since the beginning of recorded history - because no matter what the topic, you will always have fanatics.

Fanatics carry things to extremes (extremist sound familiar?), and that is what terrorists are. They think the only way to get their point across is to kill those that oppose them.

Don't think for a minute that the only terrorists in the world are the Islamic terrorists of Al Qaeda - because they are not. Some think of Greenpeace as terrorists because they use some militant tactics (bombs and stuff) to stop those that they oppose. Their motives might be peaceful, but their methods are not always. Necessary? Depends on who you ask.

The christian faith is also full of their share of extremists, or fanatics. The ones that bomb abortion clinics and shoot doctors that perform abortions are essentially doing the exact same thing that Al Qaeda did to this country on 9/11, just on a much smaller scale.

Our country was attacked because there are those in the world that thought they could "break the capitalist pigs" by attacking certain "representations" of our country and beliefs - the WTC was attacked because it represented the money; the Pentagon was the "heart" of our nation's defense; no one really knows the actual target of the fourth plane, but speculations are that the Capitol Building or White House could have been the target. They thought they would cripple our nation by hitting these targets, but all they did was strengthen our resolve. THAT is where terrorism fails miserably.

As long as there are fanatics and people that feel desperate and hopeless, there will always be terrorism. It happens in any form, and in any country.

I don't think you are stupid or ignorant only a bad speller and your question is a good one too.
As for why there is terrorism in this world my guess is that every country believes they are the smartest and have the best weapons including killing machines like those who high jack planes just to fly them into buildings with innocent people on board. I suppose those countries who train their fools to do such God awful things to people who have never done anything to them is what some call power and the real world call cowards.
If every or even a few countries would strive for world peace then maybe we as the world would have a chance to survive but to have so many countries who have even bigger fools running their country and demanding the they follow their beliefs and give up their own and to steal their oil and not care about how or even tell the real truth behind it all then terrorism will always remain in control of this world.
Our country got attacked for several reasons. One being that Bush couldn't keep his big mouth shut about what he's going to do to those countries and not even trying to take the advice of those who warned him about things like this happening and no safety measures taken either it seems he was just waiting for that to happen and then he had his reason for invading Iraq and stealing the oil from that country.
He refused to work on any deal for the oil so he decided to do the next thing which was to start war and to steal the oil.
We can all thank Bush for the war in Iraq as well for the killers of 9-11.
And for those who have nothing better to do then to tell you that you can't even spell well they can find something to do with their time other then waste space here in Yahoo questions and answers.
I know so many will blast me for my answer and ask me if I care.

There has always been terrorism. What we call terrorists used to be called names like "bandits", "pirates" and the "barbarian horde". The names have changed, and so have the available weapons, but the threat has always been there.

There will always be terrorists and criminals. At least as long as there is hatred and fear in the world. Living in terror and panic, sacrificing our liberties to cower like rabbits, surrendering the freedoms this country was founded on in the name of security -- these will not make the threat go away.

In fact, giving in to panic and fear and terror, letting go of our belief in the greater good, these are the goals of the terrorists. They want us to be afraid. They want us to close our doors and windows, to hide under the bed, to allow the police to break into our homes and private lives so we have no liberty or happiness. This is what they want to accomplish -- us living in fear.

The threat is never going to go away. The only thing we can control is how we choose to live in response to it.

The jury is still out as to whether "terrorists" were actually responsible for the "attacks" on WTC and the Pentagon.

no your not,,,,, I don't agree with Bush that it's because they hate freedom,,,, I think that Osama was effective in convincing those who flew the planes into our buildings,, the Saudi Arabian born like he is,,, and others before and after them,, that their glory is in heaven,,,, martyrdom ,,, but what is worse,, is the idea by the president that torturing suspected terrorists will matter to these brainwashed cowards,, they are likely the most tortured individuals on earth,, to get to get to the point of killing and dying for your God,,,,,, is so barbaric and backwards,,,, Koran beaters...........

people who do this are in fear of others and don't try to understand them. They can not fight a normal war, so they attack the people who really can not fight back and say it is for a good cause.

We were attacked first of all because they are stupid and nuts. Secondly, Israel is the factor. Our support given them threatens the Arabian home region.
