Well first of all, why are you scrared? If you are not ashamed, what is making you feel afraid? If your friends reject you, than maybe they're not your friends. Don't be afraid.

You don't have to tell them. When the time comes that you're all in a situation where you start dancing and you pull out your moves, I promise you'll blow them away. In fact, I would make a point of NOT telling them and waiting for that moment just so you can see the look on their faces when you amaze them. I think just about everyone on Earth is impressed with good dancing.

tell them you have a recital and ask them to go watch you dance. If they ask why you haven't told them just say it never really came up and you didn't think it was a big deal and you've been dancing for 8 years so I'm sure you're really good just invite them to a show or be fun about it and show them some sweet dance moves
Don't make it to complicated if you think about it to much you won't get the nerve to tell them just tell them.
Good luck and i hope everything works out for you! : )

Don't feel like you have to hide anything. Just kind of mention it, I'm sure they'd love to hear about it. Maybe have them come to one of your performances or teach them some steps to show that you love what you do. Its better to tell them now instead of 20 years later. Show it off, even flaunt it. It does not matter if they like it or not, If they like it great!, If they don't , that's great too. Dance is something beautiful to have and if they can't accept something you love they are horrible friends. Good luck and keep on dancing!

Why should you be ashamed? Dance is a beautiful thing, t's an art. Go on and tell them. They'll think it's cool.

Just tell them that you dance, why not? It's not like you were hiding something shameful. If they think dancing is lame it is their problem, not yours. Your friends don't always have to approve everything you do. If you think you were "cheating" on them by not telling them - you were not. They are not supposed to be aware of everything you do. They are your friends, not your parents or spouses.

Why would telling them be a problem? Or something you think the world should know through the internet?

Have a wee look at the dictionary. Look up Narcissism.
