Yes, there are. The speed (compared with the cable) depends on the service (and how much you pay). But the term, wireless, is a little misleading since the Internet that we use is only one. The wireless Internet refers only to the connection between your computer or PDA to the Internet Service Provider (so called ISP) that is the first entry to the Internet. Once your Internet message gets into the ISP office though the wireless connection, it will be connected directly to the Internet most probably through the ground (terrestrial) connections from the ISP like any other Internet customers.

Wireless internet is simply a network throughout a house or campus that provides internet access for machines with a special reciever card (NIC Card), the signal itself is brought into the house/campus by cable, dsl, or T1/T3 lines. Very few cities (if any?) offer wireless internet on such a large scale.

Satellite is mostly for rural areas that need highspeed internet but do not have access to cable/DSL services in their area. It's comparable to cable in download speed, although upload speed tends to be quite slow, as well as a delay (latency) between, for example, when you click on a link and when it actually starts downloading the webpage. It has to send the signal from your dish, to the satellite, to the servers, and back again. It's also ridiculously expensive to install and subscribe to, something like $80-100/month.

Yes, there is wireless internet, I am using it now...it's great. I have a laptop and can access the internet from anywhere in my house. Your actual access to the internet first comes from your internet provider, like cable or dsl. Then you buy a wireless router and connect the cable or dsl to that, and load the wireless router software on your computer. The speed will be only as good or bad as your cable or dsl speed.

Wireless is about the same speed as cable and satellite is much faster and an entirely different program than cable. It is much more reliable and provides you with access to your computer anywhere without relying on "hot spots" for service.

A very small amount of cities provide wireless internet that you pay for. Satellite internet can have bandwidth just as good as cable but the only problem is because it has to go to outer space and back you get high ping (the time it takes for your information to get to your destination) times.

wifi is usually off of a cellular line or link and is normally fourteen four...ie...slow as all...xxxx. if you have a wireless router however it doesnt use a phone line and is considerably faster. satellite for the cost is definitely not worth it. satellite is normally two to three x the cost of cable and unless cable is not in your area is a waste. usually the power of a good cpu can overcome any slight difference you may see between cable and satellite. good god man if your already talking cable speed how much faster do you need?

There's both Sat & Wireless.

Sat Internet has good download speed, but will NOT work for real time games

Wireless (Clearwire) also has good speed IF your in the coverage area.
