rape alarms, hair spray, and maybe a few self defence classes, not going out late alone and using a bit of common sense

Take a class on how to protect yourself. A lot of other options are nice... pepper spray, personal alarms, etc, but they're only effective if you can get to them and properly utilize these items. Too often, the defender ends up incapacitating themselves due to panic or improper use.

Contact your local police or sheriff's department and they should be able to refer you to a class. Almost all of them are free of charge.

Hi, I have the same problem, living in london its always a concern for me.
i have a bottle of spray on me all the time in my bag, it looks like pepper spray but its not and it is LEGAL in the UK
its a blue dye that foams up when you spray it causing the person to be temporarily blinded by the foam and stained blue for at least 10 days so it helps to identify anyone that has been sprayed.

i feel more comftable just knowing that its there!

You can buy all the alarms, sprays, bells and whistles, you want, truth is, the secret is not to put yourself in the position of needing them in the first place.Trust me I am a genuine Ninja, first rule of the Ninja , ' don't be there '

Pepper spray/mace is illegal in the UK as it is classed as a firearm. Take self defence classes and buy a product called StoppaRed (It's a UV self defence spray)

take a self defense class, buy some pepper spray. do NOT buy a gun!! they offer a false sense of security unless you REALLY know how to use them and can stay calm. if you are nervous enough to want one, you aren't calm enough to own one. you can learn what to do in situations of danger, such as never let anyone into your car even at gunpoint; if they want to take you someplace, they will do worse than kill you.
