Go to the county of which you reside. They are public records. You have to go to your court house annex and they will give you a copy of your home information for free. When it was built, what year, what contractor built it, the square feet and so on. I think you just have to pay for the paper they print it off of.

Start at your local registry of deeds office. You have to start with you, and then work backward from there. Good luck! If it is very old, you may not get an exact date, as records were not kept well in the olden days. There are people around (professionals) who can sometimes help with this, by going to your house and looking all around inside. I had that done a long time ago by a guy, he knew all kinds of history on the house, and gave an approximate date of when it was constructed. He didn't charge a dime for his time either! Another way, would be to contact your local historical commission, sometimes people there have great insight into really old structures too. My place was traced back as far as 1632.

Remove the foundation and look under the center load bearing support for the date code. Good luck.

If you own your home, it is probably in the deed.(the official one). Another strategy is to check with your county assessor's office. You might even be able to do it on line. GOOD LUCK!
