It was about four hours after the shooting happened "four people killed, 16 injured hahahahaha" and "Imagine that a guy coming in and shooting and killing people. hahahaha". Weirdo. He better NEVER use me as a reference when he is looking for another job.

Could be nervous laughter, could be discomfort, could be an attempt to mask his concern and defend against a feeling of fear. Some folks behave in the way that they believe others expect them to rather than risk showing the way that they really feel. That's an immaturity thing. He might've been trying to impress his coworkers by appearing nonchalant and might've been shocked that your reaction differed from what he expected. There might also be enough distance (physical and/or situational) to allow this person not to take the tragedy to heart. It might be different had it been close to home or a "close call" (one hopes). Some are numbed by repeated exposure to violent acts of others through media and in their every day lives. Others find it really difficult to take another's perspective and show empathy. Glad to hear that you do not and feel comfortable enough to share your outrage and regret over the tragedy.

Consider that maybe this is NERVOUS laughter... like the one time I watched an x rated movie, i couldn't stop laughing! Totally Nerves. Maybe he feels SO uncomfortbale with the shooting and/or discussing it, that he laughs inappropriately. Have you ever heard of someone laughing at a funeral? Either that, or I wouldn't take his lunch out of the fridge... he may have people buried in his basement.

He sounds very immature ; and probably spends all his spare time playing video games . Then again , some people who have not learned how to express themselves , might nervously laugh at a tragedy . I've seen people do that and it does seem strange .
