I think you are referring to ringback tones by Verizon.
1) You have to have Verizon.
2)Download the free Ringtone software offered by Verizon, open it and click left (I think) for ringback tones.
3) They arent free, but it is only a one time charge, not monthly.
4) hope they like the song.
Hope I was of some help

There is a service offered by some mobile phone networks. I don't know if you;re in the UK or US but for example T-Mobile of a service called Caller Tunes.
When a caller rings you, they won't hear "ring, ring" THEY will hear say Shakira or erm Backstreet Boys.
Check out the T-Mobile link for lots of examples, costs 10p/min.
They servcie is normalyl called "ringback tones" or "ring tone replacements"

Would need to know the phone make and model. Do you have a manual? Or go type it into a search engine.
