The problem I have is that I got denied being able to rent an apartment because my ex that I was on the lease with paid the rent late after I moved out. The lease started on August 31, 2005 and I left the apartment in March due to my ex's domestic abuse. However, I asked him to tell me before I filed the application if he paid rent late since I left and he lied. So therefore, he lied and I ended up being denied being able to rent a decent apartment when I paid the rent on time until I moved out.
How would I go about fixing this situation so that I am able to rent? Is there a way I can prove that I paid the rent on time up until I left or is there nothing I can do. Me and my fiance want to move out but we want to have a place that is up to code and is safe for my 14 month old son. Thanks in advance.

assuming you still live in the area of the apartment complex you and your ex lived, call and set a time with the property manager
and set an appointment with him/her to discuss the rental history at the property and to make an amendment to the report that holds you responsible after you and ex parted ways, most will try to help you out and if you can give info on the last know address
of ex and where ex works you may be helping them out with getting the only thing they want which is past due rents or damage to the unit. even though they take you off as being responsible, it may take some time before this gets taken off of your rental history so ask for a letter on their company letterhead
stating that while you where there, all rents due where paid in a timely manner. hope this helps

Can you just put the lease in his name or can you get prove from the real estate that it was you x that was the rent payer after the time you left. If so this will help get the real estate to give you a letter or phone up the new real estate. If they are decent they should do this. Other then that you will have to hope that somebody will give you a chance to prove your self. Good luck

Have you thought about explaining the situation to the prospective landlord? They may just give you a chance if you explain the situation. You can also look at it like, what do you have to loose since they already said no. You can only gain!

Good Luck!
